Galileo Magnet High School’s Cross Country Team held their third annual Pancake Breakfast Sept. 17, raising more than $2,000 for entry fees and uniforms.

“We pre-sold most our tickets for $6 a piece we also sold some at the door along with a few extras so ultimately we sold most of our tickets,” Cross Country Coach Mark Bryant said.

Bryant said he was very happy with the turnout of the fundraiser and loved the fact that the customers utilized the drive-thru service more than in previous years.

“We definitely had more people come to the doors this year and the a lot more people took advantage of the drive-thru lane. As far as total profit goes it amounts to roughly what we made last year coming in the range of $2,000-2,200,” Bryant said.

In order to encourage the cross country runners to sell more tickets Bryant offered an incentive: a free short-sleeve shirt if they sold ten tickets, long-sleeve shirt if they sold twenty and a hoodie if they sold thirty.

“The money goes towards our entrance fees for races, new uniforms, hotels, our award ceremony, dinner banquet, supplies for our team and other necessities such as things for our home race,” Bryant said.

The team took an active role in the event with students and their parent’s greetings guests, setting tables, preparing food, serving, delivering takeout, and cleaning up afterwards.

Persons purchasing a ticket for the breakfast were offered a menu of bacon and regular or chocolate chip pancakes and orange juice, water, or coffee.

“My job was to clean the tables and to make sure everything was wiped and clean,” Cross Country Runner Joshua Buckley said, calling the event a success.

After the Pancake Breakfast, the runners and parents were given their own breakfast plate for free, a sweet reward for their hard work.
